Launching a new massage option for runners

Calma offers a new 30 minute focused massage for runners to help recovery from training and staying in top shape

Love running but hate the impact on your body? Hate running and hate the impact too?

Whether you’re a reluctant jogger cursing each stride around the Common or a keen runner hitting the streets several times a week; we’ve all been there after training - stiff legs, aching calves, tight hamstrings.

There are a variety of things we can do to help our bodies recover following exercise (e.g. stretching, foam rolling, heating, rest!) and massage therapy is an effective part of a holistic body maintenance and injury prevention strategy. 

A focused massage for runners to help manage the impacts of training can help you:

·        reduce muscle soreness,

·        reduce tension,

·        improve range of motion,

·        support injury prevention,

·        and improve mental health;

Using a mixture of lighter and deeper strokes, massage treatment will help improve circulation and blood flow to hard working muscle helping to remove waste products and deliver oxygen and nutrients to the tissues that aid a quicker recovery.

Ideally, a regular massage (monthly or even fortnightly) can optimise your performance and support your body to recover well and remain injury free. However, we don’t live in an ideal world, and massage can be expensive – especially on top of gym fees, training sessions and the general cost of living.

As a regular runner myself, who’s suffered frequently with soft tissue injuries and a lot of aches and pains, I know how frustrating it can be to feel priced out of treatments you know you’d benefit from to maintain a full training schedule.
